A chemical peel that uses Jessner’s solution works on the surface. This peel is available in one strength only, but applying multiple layers can allow the solution to penetrate your skin at a deeper level. This solution was created by Dr. Max Jessner and has been used for over 100 years. The solution uses many different chemicals to help reduce the toxic effects of the individual components.

Jessner’s solution includes:

• 14 grams of resorcinol
• 14 grams of salicylic acid (which is a beta hydroxy acid)
• 14 grams of lactic acid (which is an alpha hydroxy acid)
• Ethanol

The mixture of the resorcinol, salicylic acid, and lactic acid are dissolved in the ethanol to make 100 cc of the solution. Since some people may be allergic to resorcinol, the solution can be altered to remove this component during the chemical peel.
